Jubilee n ting

It's the Queens diamond jubilee! Or it was the queens diamond jubilee yesterday? I'm not quite sure, and to be honest, I'm not really that bothered.

No disrespect to the Queen, I've just never appreciated the idea of any monarchy in any country.  The idea that someone is better than someone else through birth and because you belong to a particular family is just arrogant and idiotic to me, Especially  in countries like Saudi Arabia and other places where kingdoms were only introduced recently (like 60 years ago).

The idea of being so ridiculously rich that you can pretty much buy yourself the title of King or Queen is bizarre to me!

Queen Elizabeth the second, back in her 'pulling' days.

But anyway, the queen is celebrating her 60th year on the throne!
Even though I don't really appreciate a monarchy, I've gotta say it's pretty cool that Queen Elizabeth has been ruling for 60 years! And it's even more impressive since the last monarch to celebrate their diamond jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1887!

And I suppose even though the Queen's job is to pretty much chill 24/7, she's the main reason our dull, damp country gets any tourists!

So yeah, well done Queeny!

Did you guys do anything to celebrate the jubilee?
I caught a little bit on TV, and it was so bloody boring!
It was just the Queen and her fam standing at the Thames, waving at people sailing past her from all over the country.  I think It's really sweet people travelled all that way in boat to see her, especially since the weather was so crap, but it was a yawn-fest.

I was wondering if a blogger out there has celebrated their 60th year of blogging....
but then I thought that's pretty impossible, since the internet hasn't really been accessible to everyone for that long really, has it?!

Ahhh well,
here's to a long life of blogging folks! Let's see if I can make it to 60 years of blogging :O

  1. Ayesha! Another FAB article... One TEENSY WEENSY typo! 1987? More like 1887, when Vicky had her 60th Jubilee... I'm not a monarchist either, but to be a regular fixture these days, especially for 60 years takes some doing! So, well done Lizzy... Keep up the good work!

  2. In America we frown upon queens... (unless they are queens of the internet like Boxxy or Rebecca Black). That's why we fought the American revolution, and dumped all the tea in Boston harbor and gave the fish caffeine poisoning.

  3. I'm not a big fan of El Queenio, but I can appreciate what she does for the tourism industry. The internet has been around for some time, but I'm not sure how long blogging has been around. Keep at it and you could indeed be someone who blogs for sixty years :)

I could never do it with my schedule.

  5. Awww I love royalty lol... but I do prefer old royal families to new ones. There's a rich tradition to the whole thing which, I feel, lends something special to the country. I watched the river pageant online and agree that it was pretty boring - however, I was very impressed with the Queen not sitting down for over three or four hours. That showed a real respect for the people who were doing so much to make her day special - and I don't think many people, whoever they are, would have done the same. Last night I watched an hour of the concert but it was too later here so finally went to bed.

All in all I thought it was pretty fun. Long live the queen ;-)

  6. yay! ok, i hate the fact they are better off just cos they're royalty. sucks. but the only reason i've any interest is royalty at all are two reasons: Princess Di and fairy tales.

dayum, just reminded myself of Princess Diana unnecessarily. put myself in a damp mood.

anyways, take care and here's to us bloggers so that we last a good ol' 60+ years!

  7. I haven't had the opportunity to celebrate my 60th anything, but I am thinking I should. I really bog on cakes. King Arthur gluten-free cake mixes are the absolute best. I've had three cakes in the past two days. Maybe I can celebrate when I have my 60th KA cake. I think I am at 20 or so.

  9. Thanks a lot for sharing an interesting subject. In Japan we have the 125th emperor whose lineage is believed to have continued since the 1st emperor. There are pros and corns here. I’ll think over this issue.
    Have a great week.
